Fifteen Central Park West

My first Manhattan apartment was a brownstone located on 75th Street and Central Park West. I fell in love with the Upper West Side because of the beautiful tree lined streets, proximity to the Central Park but most of all the magnificent historical residences such as The Dakota, The San Remo and The Century. Known simply as “CPW”, Central Park West Historic District is a liner historic including the stretch of Central Park West from 61st to 97th Street. The stylistically diverse buildings of Central Park West create a skyline which is exuberant and varied as to scale, height and form.

Completed in 2008, the ultra-luxurious condominium building 15 Central Park West is located on 61st Street and Central Park West. The building was designed by architect Robert A.M. Stern and was developed by Arthur & William Zeckendorf of Zeckendorf Developments. The glorious apartments and classic limestone facade resemble a Pre-War architectural look. 15 CPW is considered to be one of the most prestigious residential address costing $950 million dollars to build. The building is composed of a whole city block that was formally a vacant lot and the dilapidated Mayflower Hotel (Built in 1926). The building is divided into two sections, a 19-story tower on Central Park West known as “The House” and a 35-story tower on Broadway conjoined by a glass enclosed lobby.

The 202 apartments ranging from one to four bedroom features high ceilings, dining rooms, crown molding details and plenty of natural light from the large casement windows. Building amenities include a private cobblestone motor entrance, a spacious courtyard, a beautiful 14,000 square foot (1,300 cubic meters) fitness center with a 75 foot (22.86 m) swimming pool, a screening room, a walnut paneled library and private wine cellars.

Celebrity residents both past and present include Sting, Denzel Washington, Russian businessperson Dmitry Rybolovlev, NY Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez, Norman Lear, Bob Costas and Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein.
